Youssef En-Nesyri scored a brace on his return from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as Sevilla defeated Rayo Vallecano 2-1 on Monday night in their continuous fight for La Liga survival.
The 26-year-old had been on international duty with the Atlas Lions in Ivory Coast, scoring once as the tournament favourites were knocked out by South Africa in the round of 16.
En-Nesyri wasted no time in getting back to his club duties when he opened the scoring in the 19th with a close range finish.
Rayo equalised 10 minutes later courtesy of Isi Palazon but En-Nesyri was able to restore Sevilla’s lead on the stroke of halftime with a sublime finish after being nicely set up by Isaac Romero.
