Morocco has emerged as host country for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The North African country won the bid to replace Guinea after North African rivals Algeria opted out of the challenge on Tuesday.
Morocco will be hosting the rest of the continent for the first time since 1988 where they finished fourth on home soil.
Since they lifted the AFCON title in 1976, Morocco’s best finish in the tournament has been as runners-up in 2004.
They are among the 24 countries that qualified for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year’s January and they became the first African country to reach the FIFA World Cup semi-final with their fourth-place feat at Qatar 2022.
Currently ranked as the 13th best men’s football team in the world, Morocco has stamped his authority as force in African football with the leadership of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) under Fouzi Lekjaa.
Morocco recently hosted the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations and they will once again host the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations next year.
