Monchi is expected to leave his role as Aston Villa’s President of Football Operations, bringing an end to a tenure that lasted just over two years, Afrosport reports.
During his time at the club, the 57-year-old developed a strong working relationship with head coach Unai Emery and director of football Damien Vidagany.
His influence was instrumental in Villa’s return to Europe, helping the club secure a place in last season’s Champions League. Although Villa narrowly missed out on qualification for this year’s competition, finishing sixth in the Premier League.
Under his guidance, Villa made several notable signings, including Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, and Amadou Onana.
Monchi also played a key role in securing high-profile loan deals for Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio last season, before bringing in Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho on Deadline Day earlier this month.
News of Monchi’s impending departure comes at a turbulent moment for Villa, following a winless start to the season, most recently marked by a disappointing result against Sunderland.
