Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has criticised forward Nicolas Jackson for lack of consistency in front of goal and wants the club to go for a more prolific option like Victor Osimhen, Afrosport reports.
Jackson had a decent start to the season after netting nine goals coupled with three assists in his first 15 Premier League matches of the season.
However, the Senegal international has been unable to register a goal or assist in his last four matches which has also rendered Chelsea winless in those games.
Mikel has called out the striker stating that he is not scoring enough goals for Chelsea.
The Nigerian also stated that Chelsea are playing well but are not clinical in front of goal and advising them to go for either his compatriot Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli or Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres, in order to compete for the Premier League title.
“We are creating chances, we are still playing well, we are still doing the right things but we are not clinical enough, we’re not scoring goals,” Mikel said on The Obi One Podcast.
“We have talked about getting another top, top striker who can win us these kind of games, difficult games where if Nicolas Jackson is not firing on all cylinders you can give him a rest and then get someone else to come into the team and try to win us games and score goals.
“We are not clinical enough, he is not scoring enough goals. He puts himself in the right positions but then he’s not finishing, he’s not scoring enough.
“If we had Victor Osimhen or the guy from Sporting, Viktor Gyokeres, trust me, we’d still be competing for the Premier League.”
Osimhen has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 16 competitive outings for Galatasaray while Gyokeres has scored 30 goals in 28 games for Sporting.
