Marco Silva names Iwobi as Fulham’s best player of the season

NWSL: Zambia’s Banda explains training impact on Orlando Pride’s playoff progress

Fulham manager Marco Silva has named Alex Iwobi as Fulham’s best player so far this season, Afrosport reports.

The Super Eagles midfielder has been ever-present for the Cottagers, starting all 11 games played. This included Saturday’s tie away at 10-man Crystal Palace which ended 2-0 in their favour with Iwobi providing the assist for the second goal for Harry Wilson.

Silva was pleased to see Wilson and Iwobi have great chemistry in the build up to the goal.

“Alex, for example, is being one of the best players so far this season, if not the best. From the first day of the pre-season, he’s been so, so brilliant,” Silva told the club website.

“That connection that he’s creating with Alex – it’s not the first time that we created a chance like that, and he did it again, and I’m really pleased for him.”

Speaking on Wilson, Iwobi was pleased to see the former Liverpool man take his chances despite having limited playing opportunities this season.

“Yeah, of course, I trust King H [Harry Wilson] when he’s in that goalscoring opportunity, 90% he is going to be taking his chance and yeah I’m happy for him as well,” the former Arsenal man explained.

“It’s healthy competition at the end of the day. He’s not one that’s just going to sit on the bench and be moody about it. He comes on and makes impact every time.

“He shows it in training, we see the quality all the time but it’s not just him but like a lot of the wingers. Everyone is ready to perform and put 100% for the team so iud great to see and great to have.”

Iwobi will now turn his attention to international duty with the Super Eagles as they prepare to face Rwanda and Benin in the final fixtures of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
