Man Utd handed huge boost ahead of crucial Europa League clash

Manchester United have been given a huge boost ahead of the second leg of their UEFA Europa League quarterfinal clash against Sevilla on Thursday.

The English giants welcomed the return of their leading scorer Marcus Rashford and first-choice left-back Luke Shaw to training at their Carrington base on Wednesday.

Rashford, who is enjoying the most prolific scoring season of his career with 28 goals, has missed United’s last two games, including the first leg against Sevilla last Thursday, after he suffered a groin injury in a Premier League clash against Everton on April 8.

Likewise, Shaw, who recently signed a new four-year contract extension with the Red Devils, has also missed their last three games following his withdrawal in the first half of their 1-0 win over Brentford in the Premier League due to a muscular injury.

Also pictured in training were Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer and Dutch full-back Tyrell Malacia.

Bayern Munich loanee Sabitzer was doubtful for Thursday’s game after pulling up with an abductor muscle injury against Nottingham Forest while Malacia missed the trip to the City Ground with a knee issue.

In the first-leg of the quarter-final fixture, Erik ten Hag’s men let a two-goal lead slip away at Old Trafford, with own goals from Malacia and captain Harry Maguire overturning two sublime finishes from Sabitzer.

The return of the four players provides Manchester United with a much-needed lift following a spree of recent injuries, including a season-ending injury to ever-reliable defender Lisandro Martinez, an extended absence for Frenchman Raphael Varane, Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay, and Argentine wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho.

They will also be without creative midfielder Bruno Fernandes, who has been suspended due to a yellow card he picked up in the first leg.

A win will help United qualify for their third semi-final of the season when they visit the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium to take on Sevilla, whom they have never defeated in major European competitions.
