Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is keen to help English forward Marcus Rashford rediscover his goalscoring form, Afrosport reports.
Rashford scored the first goal of Amorim’s reign as United boss, with the 27-year-old breaking the deadlock in their 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday.
The strike was Rashford’s second goal in 12 Premier League matches this season, and Amorim is hoping the United Academy graduate can replicate the same form that saw him bag 30 goals in the 2022-23 season.
“That position is not the best one for him [Marcus Rashford], especially in a game like that [against Ipswich],” Amorim said while speaking to reporters on Wedneday ahead of their Europa League match against Bod/Glimt.
“We had to kick with high pressure, we had to kick the ball so many times and it was like fighting with two giants. We’ll try to find the right solution for him, and for the other players.
“But he has to be Marcus, first of all, to try to return to that moment and then he will have all the help of the staff, the club and the fans because he’s a Manchester United boy. But he has to be the first one to want it.”
Meanwhile, the 39-year-old Portuguese also shared some good news with United fans. revealing that the defensive pair of Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire took part in the team training.
Amorim, however, stated that only Martinez was fit enough to face Bodo/Glimt, as Maguire, who has been sidelined with a muscle injury since October, will not play a part in the Europa League match.
“Lisandro is ready,” Amorim added. “I felt he had enough time so [he] is ready. A different situation with Harry.
“We need them both, but they are in a different situation. They are both training. Harry will be ready soon and, on the pitch, also.”
Amorim is also looking forward to his first home game as United’s coach at their famous Old Trafford ground.
“Everyone has said to me it will be a special time. I just want to win the game. Just to give that happiness to the supporters,” Amorim stated.
“Before the match, it will be like a new sensation, but after the whistle, it will be one more game and we want to win that match.”
United, with six points, are 15th in the Europa League standings with one win in four games, while their Norwegian opponents are 12th with a point more.
