Man United co-owner Radcliffe gives Amorim three years to prove self

Manchester United hierarchy maintain faith in Amorim despite poor season start

Manchester United co-owner Jim Radcliffe says he will give head coach Ruben Amorim up to three years to prove himself at the club, Afrosport reports.

The Portuguese tactician has come under fire from the media and fans for not delivering consistent results since he took charge from Erik ten Hag last November.

Under the former Sporting Lisbon boss’ watch, United have won 20 out of 50 games, drawing nine and losing 21, leaving him with the lowest percentage of any manager after the Alex Ferguson era.

It has led to suggestions Amorim is not capable of leading a team the size of United and would be shown the exit door at Old Trafford soon, however, Radcliffe is giving him enough time to turn things around.

“He has not had the best of seasons. Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be,” he told The Times.

“The press, sometimes I don’t understand. They want overnight success. They think it’s a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it’s all going to be roses tomorrow.

“You can’t run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week.”

Man United are currently 10th in the Premier League after seven games and will play fierce rivals Liverpool at Anfield after the international break on October 19.
