Enugu Rangers and Kano Pillars claimed vital wins on Wednesday as the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) resumed with two rescheduled fixtures, Afrosport reports.
At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, Rangers asserted dominance in an Oriental Derby, defeating Abia Warriors 2-0.
The hosts started brightly and were rewarded in the 15th minute when Chigozie Iwundu rose highest in the box to head home a corner kick.
The Flying Antelopes doubled their lead before the break through experienced forward Godwin Obaje, who slotted home in the 33rd minute to hand the Home side a comfortable cushion.
Abia Warriors, who had the fixture brought forward due to continental duties, struggled to find their rhythm throughout the match and will look to regroup ahead of their next outing.
Despite the defeat, Abia Warriors stay fourth on 12 points, one ahead of Enugu Rangers who moved up to fifth on the table.
Meanwhile in Kano, Rabiu Ali rolled back the years once again, proving decisive for the home side as Kano Pillars edged Kwara United 1-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
