Lookman returns to Atalanta after Inter Milan pull out of transfer pursuit

Ademola Lookman has returned to Atalanta and is preparing to resume training at Zingonia, after Inter Milan officially withdrew from the race to sign him this summer, Afrosport reports.

Reports on Monday revealed that Inter informed Atalanta of their decision to end negotiations for the reigning African Player of the Year, despite weeks of discussions between the two clubs.

The Nerazzurri had submitted two bids, including an improved offer worth €45 million. But the Bergamo-based club rejected both offers, forcing Inter to decide against continuing with negotiations.

Lookman, meanwhile, handed in a formal transfer request following the club’s rejection. The 27-year-old also skipped team training, opting instead to return to the UK to practice individually.

The Nigeria international also issued a strongly worded statement accusing the Italian club of breaking promises and failing to treat him fairly “as a human being and professional footballer.”

Despite pushing for the move, Lookman has now been left with little option but to rejoin the side, just days before the 2025-26 Serie A season kicks off.

Atalanta begin new life under Ivan Juric and will welcome newly-promoted Pisa to the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.
