Leon Balogun has praised his Nigerian and Rangers teammate Cyriel Dessers after he scored the only goal in their 1-0 Scottish Premiership win over Hearts on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

The 29-year-old scored the decisive goal in the sixth minute off an assist from James Tavernier for his third goal in a row having gone eight games without scoring.

It took Dessers’ tally to nine goals for the season, four of them in the Premiership and Scottish League Cup.

“We need Cyriel up there,” Balogun said about Dessers on the club website.

“I wish sometimes that he would reward himself more. Everyone would benefit from that.

“He is really trying and I am pleased for him to score three goals on the bounce. It is good for his confidence and hopefully he picks up even more.

Meanwhile, Balogun has seen a run of games lately after being a unused in six consecutive games Between September 15 and October 6 and says he has found the recent run challenging.

“I have found the last few weeks challenging. I hadn’t played for nearly two months and then we have had four games in ten days,” the former Brighton and Hove Albion player said.

“I am not complaining but it takes its toll and you have to be managed well and that’s why the breather I got on Thursday came at a good time, even though I wanted to play.

“I am really happy, we have had some good performances and I am enjoying being back in the team.”

Rangers remain third in the Premiership standings, nine points behind joint leaders Celtic and Aberdeen.
