Matchday 17 in the Spanish La Liga provided another blockbuster result as champions Real Madrid were held to a 3-3 draw in an enthralling six-goal thriller at Rayo Vallecano.

Unai Lopez gave the home side the lead inside four minutes at the Estadio de Vallecas, and Ghana international Abdul Mumin nodded past Thibaut Courtois to double Rayo’s lead in the 36th minute.

Madrid, however, had other ideas, with the 36-time Spanish champions drawing level with two quick goals before the halftime break.

Federico Valverde initially reduced the deficit for Madrid with a 30-yard strike that beat Augusto Batalla in the 39th minute, while Jude Bellingham’s header six minutes later ensured Los Blancos went into the break level.

After the interval, Carlo Ancelotti’s men scored a third goal through Rodrygo Goes in the 56th minute, but the hosts would draw level in the 64th minute through Isaac Palazon as Inigo Perez’s side denied Madrid the opportunity to move to the top of the La Liga table.

Elsewhere, Jesus Navas’ final match at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium for Sevilla ended in victory as they defeated Celta Vigo 1-0 thanks to Manu Bueno’s second-half goal.

Meanwhile, 10-man Real Mallorca defeated Girona 2-1 at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix Stadium.

A brace from Carlos Larin sealed the comeback win for the hosts after Donny van de Beek had put Girona ahead in the seventh minute.

At the RCDE Stadium, Espanyol and Osasuna played out a goalless draw to wrap up Saturday’s La Liga action.
