A Real Oviedo fan has been arrested by the Spanish National Police after making racist gestures towards Real Madrid players in the La Liga matchday two fixture on August 24, Afrosport reports.
The incident occurred in the 37th minute when Kylian Mbappe’s opening goal was being celebrated with teammates in the 3-0 win.
Monkey gestures and noises from Real Oviedo fans were captured by the television broadcast, and a suspect was identified after images and videos were reviewed from the match.
The Spanish National Police in a statement on X said: “A fan has been arrested for mimicking racist gestures and sounds during a match between Real Oviedo and Real Madrid.
“La Liga reported the incidents after the match held in Oviedo.”

This development comes a week after an Espanyol fan was handed a one-year prison sentence for racially abusing Athletic Bilbao and Ghana forward Inaki Williams during a La Liga match five years ago.
