A Kylian Mbappe penalty was all Real Madrid needed to defeat Osasuna 1-0 in their 2025-26 La Liga season opener at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.
The game was the first league encounter for new manager and former player Xabi Alonso who replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the end of last season.
The first half was a cagey affair with Los Blancos failing to make anything out of their 10 total shots with three of them on target.
The defining moment finally came in the 51st minute when Osasuna defender Juan Cruz brought down Mbappe in the box and the Frenchman converted the resultant penalty.

Osasuna failed to get anything from the game and were reduced to 10 men in added time when Abel Bretones was sent off for violent conduct.
Real Madrid have now avoided defeat on the opening day of the La Liga season for the 17th time in a row (W12, D5) and will next travel to newly-promoted Real Oviedo on Sunday.
