Atletico Madrid has issued a lifetime stadium ban to a fan that was found guilty of throwing objects onto the pitch during Sunday’s Madrid derby at the Metropolitano Stadium.
Deigo Simeone’s side played out a 1-1 draw with their city rival, Real Madrid, in a match that was marred by fan trouble.
The visitors got the opener in the 64th minute after defender Eder Militao found the back of the net. However, three minutes later, former Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois complained to the referee about harmful objects like lighters being thrown onto the pitch, forcing the match to be temporarily suspended.
After the home fans looked to have calmed down a bit, the game resumed after being halted for about 20 minutes with Atletico leveling the scores in second half stoppage time through Argentine forward Angel Correa.

One of the fans who was throwing the objects was identified by police and has now been issued a lifetime ban.
This is not the first time that Atletico fans inside the Metropolitano are getting heated during a Madrid derby, as the atmosphere is always tense between these bitter rivals.
The club, however, announced it’s working together with the authorities to ensure the perpetrators are caught and punished.
