Kenya President, William Ruto and First Lady, Rachel placed bets on the outcome of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France on Sunday.
The South American giants held a 2-0 lead for 80 minutes until Les Bleus responded with two quick goals from Kylian Mbappe. The game was forced into extra time, ending 3-3 and 4-2 on penalties.
President Ruto threw his support for France because of the large contingent of players that are of African descents while the Kenyan First Lady took sides with Argentina and her husband demanded she pay for the bet.
“Supporting the African team in the world Cup finals. Good luck Rachel and kids as you support the other side. Remember to pay the bet!! Either way expecting fine football,” Ruto said in a Twitter post.

Ruto became Kenya’s president back in August, beating his rival Raila Odinga with 50.49% of the votes which was upheld by the country’s Supreme Court.
Kenyan football recently saw the return of former captain Victor Wanyama, who came out of international retirement after falling out previously with the country’s football association in 2021, which has since seen a change in leadership.
