British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua has confirmed that his heavyweight rematch against Dillian Whyte at The O2 Arena in London will be on August 12.
The two heavyweight boxers have agreed terms for the bout next month and are expected to face off at a press conference in England’s capital next Monday.
Joshua and Whyte are long-time rivals and are going to suit up for their third fight in August. Whyte won the first bout between the two fighters in the amateur ranks in 2009, but Joshua retaliated by defeating him in a heavyweight title fight in 2015 by a seventh-round knockout.
Joshua, 33, recently defeated Jermaine Franklin by unanimous decision in April after back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO champion. The Olympic champion fell short in his attempt to become a three-time unified champion after the defeats.
“I’ve been clear that my plan is to be active this year,” Joshua said. “August 12 is the date – I’ll be ready to fight. I look forward to dealing with business.”
Whyte, who lost his WBC title fight to Tyson Fury at Wembley Stadium in April 2022, revamped his career with a points victory over Franklin in November 2022.
“I’m looking forward to returning to the London O2 on August 12 and going to war,” Whyte said. “It’s 1-1, so this is the decider.”
Since he turned professional following his gold medal win in the 2012 Olympics, Josha has won 25 fights and lost three.
Whyte, on the other hand, has fought 32 professional fights, winning 29 and losing three, and the upcoming bout will be the decider between him and Joshua as they are locked on one win apiece against each other.
