Jorge Martin was crowned the 2024 MotoGP world champion after finishing third in the Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
The season finale was moved to the Circuit de Catalunya after the traditional race in Valencia was cancelled due to flooding in the eponymous region.
Jorge Martin came into Sunday’s race in Barcelona 19 points clear of double world champion Bagnaia and having started from pole position, Bagnaia led every lap of the race for his 11th win of the season ahead of six-time premier class champion Marc Marquez.
Martin was able to hold down third for the whole race which was enough to hand the Spaniard his first-ever championship by 10 points.
