Jackson’s goalscoring form continues in Villarreal victory

Senegal’s Jackson extends La Liga tally in Villarreal win

Nicolas Jackson was on the scoresheet once again, this time netting twice as Villarreal defeated Celta Vigo 3-1 in La Liga on Sunday.

The Gambian-born Senegalese found the back of the net in the Yellow Submarines’ previous 4-2 victory over Espanyol.

The 21-year-old wasted no time against Celta, dashing unchallenged from midfield into the penalty area and slotting the ball into the bottom right corner of the net in the second minute of play.

Jackson doubled the lead 10 minutes later after receiving a brilliant pass from Giovani Lo Celso before rounding off goalkeeper Ivan Villar and burying the ball into the bottom left corner this time. It extended the Villarreal academy graduate’s La Liga tally for the season to six goals in 20 appearances.

Quique Setien’s men could have been 3-0 up in the 26th minute but Dani Parejo missed from the penalty spot. Celta Vigo halved the the deficit moments later via Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Ramon Terrats went on seal the deal in the 70th minute with an exquisite finish off a counter attack, handing Villarreal back-to-back wins after earlier back-to-back losses against Valladolid and Sevilla.

The results leaves them in fifth place, five points behind Real Sociedad.
