George Ilenikhena has attributed his consistency in training to ending his goal drought for AS Monaco, Afrosport reports.
The 18-year-old Nigerian forward found the back of the net in Les Monegasques’ 3-1 Ligue 1 win at Strasbourg on Saturday.
It was his first goal since he netted a late winner in a 2-1 win over FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League last month.
“It was difficult for me for a while, but I didnโt give up and I kept working in training. The staff always kept me confident, which is why I was able to score again,” Ilenikhena told the club website.

The result brought Monaco back to winning ways after back-to-back league losses against OGC Nice and Angers and Ilenikhena wants to see the mentality of the team improve.
“Weโre going to try to keep this momentum going and try to win every game. Weโre tackling each game one after the other. Weโre working every day with the staff to do that, and so far itโs going very well,” he added.
“We have a very strong mental strength in our team, which means that in every situation we stay calm. We are focused until the end to try to win, and it works. We were able to turn the tide thanks to this mentality.”
Monaco’s win moved them up to second in the Ligue 1 standings.
