Guinea’s Guirassy sets Bundesliga record in Stuttgart win

Sehrou Guirassy set a new Bundesliga record after scoring a hat-trick in VfB Stuttgart’s 3-1 Bundesliga win away at Mainz on Saturday.

The Guinea forward has been a house on fire since the start of the season, scoring in games against Bochum, RB Leipzig and Freiburg.

He continued with that form by giving Stuttgart the lead against Mainz in the 56th minute. The hone team equalised in the 70th minute via Leandro Barreiro but Guirassy guaranteed the three points for his team with goals in the 84th minute and in the seventh minute of added time.

It was the 27-year-old’s eighth goal in just his fourth game and became the first player in the Bundesliga to achieve that since Peter Meyer did so for Borussia Monchengladbach in 1967.

Guirassy joined Stuttgart on a permanent deal this summer after spending the 2022-23 season on loan from French Ligue 1 side Rennes, scoring 14 goals in 29 competitive goals and ultimately helping Stuttgart secure survival after defeating Hamburg 6-1 on aggregate in the relegation/promotion playoffs.

He will be looking to score for the fifth consecutive Bundesliga game when Stuttgart host newly-promoted Darmstadt at MHP Arena next Friday.
