Guardiola signs new Manchester City deal

Manchester City have announced a new two-year contract extension for manager Pep Guardiola.

The 51-year-old, whose current deal expires at the end of the 2022/2023 season, will spend two more years at the Etihad Stadium until 2025.

The Spaniard has led Man City to 11 titles including four premier league titles and an English FA Cup title since he moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2016.

The ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager described the new contract as a testament to his good records with the Cityzens, he told the club website: “This is just the confirmation of how comfortable we are, the club and myself, again, like signing at the beginning. I cannot say thank you enough to all the club to trust me, to give me the opportunity to do my job as best as possible, but that is just papers.”

“We have to be comfortable with the team, with the club, otherwise it makes no sense. The incredible, beautiful memories we had together and still have the dream to achieve more. I know what the club wants. I will fight for that with our players and staff to do our club as best as possible.”

Meanwhile, Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak reiterated his confidence in Guardiola.

“I am delighted that Pep’s journey with Manchester City Football Club will continue. He has already contributed so much to the success and fabric of this organisation, and it’s exciting to think what might be possible given the energy, hunger and ambition that he clearly still has,” Al Mubarak said.

“Under his very special leadership, our first team has accomplished so much, whilst continuously playing, and constantly evolving, a City style of football that is admired the world over. Like every City fan, I am looking forward to what lies ahead.”

Guardiola is the second-longest serving manager in the Premier League, behind Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and the fifth-longest serving manager in the top four divisions of English football.
