Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola does not believe his squad deserve the $125 million prize money up for grabs by winning this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, Afrosport reports.
World football governing body FIFA has announced the performance-related bonuses for the expanded 32-team event in the United States, with top European clubs set to earn the biggest chunk of the $1 billion pool.
Guardiola however thinks his team are not deserving of any financial rewards judging by their overall performance during the ongoing 2024-25 season.
“We don’t deserve a bonus this season,” the Spaniard said. “The bonus, if you win, I don’t know how much, it’s for the club.
“The managers, the backroom staff, the players, we don’t deserve – not even a watch.”
City are currently fifth in the Premier League standings and have already been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League and EFL Cup.
They are however still in the FA Cup and will be in quarter-final action against Bournemouth this weekend.
