Gift Orban receives first career red card in Gent victory

Gusto joins Mikel Obi in setting Chelsea red card record

Gift Orban was sent off for the first time in his prolific career as he received a red card in Gent’s 2-1 Belgian Pro League win over Eupen on Sunday.

The Nigerian forward was back in action for the Buffalos after sitting out of the UEFA Europa Conference League 1-1 draw at Zorya on Thursday.

Gent however fell behind in the 27th minute in Sunday’s encounter thanks to Milos Pantovic’s effort. Things turned sour for Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s side when Orban was given his marching orders in the 44th minute for violent conduct after hitting an opponent in the face inside the penalty box.

It seemed things were going to get worse for Gent when Orban’s strike partner Hugo Cuypers, missed from the penalty spot just three minutes into the second half. Sven Jims however scored from the follow up that fell his way. The comeback was complete when Morocco midfielder Tarik Tissoudali headed the ball home in the 57th minute.

The result was a return to winning ways for Gent in the Pro League after drawing 1-1 at Leuven last time out. They remain at the summit of the log with 17 points, two clear of Anderlecht who have played a game more.
