Germany boss Nagelsmann extends contract until EURO 2028

UCL: Bayern coach Nagelsmann talks tough after win over PSG

The German Football Association (DFB) on Friday announced that Julian Nagelsmann has signed a contract extension to remain as Germany’s head coach until the Euro 2028 tournament, Afrosport reports.

Nagelsmann took over Die Mannschaft in September 2023, becoming the German team’s second-youngest ever coach. He led them to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, which they hosted, losing out to eventual winners Spain.

The former Bayern Munich boss initially had a contract that ran until the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

“In September 2023, when I joined the DFB, I could not have imagined being national coach beyond the home European Championship,” Nagelsmann said.

“Our big goal was a successful tournament. But I also couldn’t have imagined back then what the national team means to the people of Germany. How many hearts it reaches and moves.

“This great feedback that we all, not just me, get every day shows us that we are on the right path together. And it is not over yet. We have all created something together – fans, team and coaching staff – that we now want to successfully develop further. We want to win titles together.”

The 37-year-old will be on the sidelines in March when Germany takes on Italy in a two-legged quarterfinal in the UEFA Nations League.
