Gary O’Neil has parted with Wolverhampton Wanderers after Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at home to Ipswich Town, Afrosport reports
O’Neil replaced Julen Lopetegui just four days before the start of the 2023-24 season and led them to a 14th place finish.
The defeat at the Molineux on Saturday was Wolves’ 11th in the league this season with just two wins and three draws which has left them in 19th, four points from safety
Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said on the club website: “We’re very grateful to Gary for all of his effort, dedication and hard work during his time at the club, and we wish him and his team the best of luck for the future.”
Wolves have struggled with some off-field issues lately as well. Gabon midfielder Mario Lemina waat stripped of the captaincy after an altercation with West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen last Monday. Matheus Cunha then fought with Ipswich security and striker Liam Delap during Saturday’s match.
Several manager have been muted to replace Gary O’Neil including Vitor Pereira, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, David Moyes, Steve Cooper, Graham Potter among others.
