French Ligue 1 shatter 48-year-old record in matchday 31

Matchday 31 of the 2023-24 French Ligue 1 season has been etched in history books after all 18 teams scored at least one goal in their fixtures for the first time in 48 years.

The last time all participating teams scored at least a goal in the French top-flight fixture was in the matchday 4 of the 1976-77 season.

With 40 goals scored in the matchday 31, only the final round of the 2007-08 season produced more goals in a single game week in the 21st century (43 goals).

There were dramatic scenarios in the Ligue 1 over the weekend with Brest edging Rennes 5-4 to seal a spot in European competition next season.

Lyon sealed Paris Saint-Germain’s title after beating second-placed AS Monaco 3-2, the Parisians had earlier settled for a 3-3 draw against Le Havre.

Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Senegal’s Pape Gueye also powered Marseille to a 2-1 victory against RC Lens, OGC Nice defeated Strasbourg 3-1 and Reims fell to a 4-1 loss against Clermont Foot.
