The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has been ordered to pay former Indomitable Lions coach Antonio Conceicao the fine of €1.2 million (over 1 billion CFA) that was imposed by FIFA.
FIFA, through its players status commission, sanctioned the Samuel Eto’o-led federation for wrongful dismissal of the Portuguese coach but the Cameroon FA approached the Court of Arbitration for Sport for an appeal which has now been rejected.
FECAFOOT Secretary General, Blaise Djounang confirmed the CAS decision with a statement that includes their next move to appeal in the Supreme Court of Switzerland.
The statement read: “The Cameroon Football Federation announce to the public that in view of its case against ex-Indomitable Lions of Cameroon coach Antonio Conceicao Da Silva Oliveira, CAS has opted to maintain the FIFA Players Statue despite the pertinent points raised in defense. We reserve the right to appeal at the Supreme Federal Court in Switzerland.”
Conceicao’s contract was abruptly terminated four months after he penned a new contract in February 2022.
The Portuguese coach is the latest coach to drag the Cameroon FA to FIFA for wrongful termination of contract in a list that includes Patrick Kluiver, Hugo Broos and Clarence Seedorf.
The former Braga manager led Cameroon to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
