AFCON 2023: Why South Africa game is Peseiro’s biggest test as Nigeria coach

Five new players have arrived at the Super Eagles camp in Marrakech, Morocco, for the upcoming friendlies against Ghana’s Black Stars and the Eagles of Mali.

Enyimba goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo, Belgium-based midfielder Raphael Onyedika, the newly-invited Benjamin Tanimo of Bendel Insurance, Alhassan Yusuf, and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman have all touched down on the team’s training base.

The new arrivals bring the number of players in the camp to sixteen, with six more players from the original 26-man squad expected to join up with the squad.

The Leicester City duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, Francis Uzoho, Chidozie Awaziem, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and England-based Frank Onyeka are the expected arrivals on Wednesday.

The team underwent its first training session under newly-appointed interim head coach Finidi George on Tuesday afternoon.

The three-time African champions will be in action for the first time since their runners-up finish in the 2023 African Cup of Nations earlier this year when they take on the Black Stars of Ghana in their first friendly match at the Grand Stade de Marrakech on Friday, March 22.

The Super Eagles will then take on the Eagles of Mali in their second friendly on Tuesday, March 26, at the same venue.
