Finidi George appointed as Super Eagles interim coach

Finidi George has been appointed as the interim head coach of the Super Eagles.

The Nigeria senior men’s national team has been without a coach since Jose Peseiro departed after the expiration of his contract at the end of February.

Finidi, who currently manages Nigerian Premier Football League Enyimba, will take charge of the Super Eagles’ friendlies against Ghana and Mali in Marrakech, and will remain in charge until a permanent coach is found.

The 52-year-old featured for the Super Eagles as a player between 1991 and 2002 and was part of the famous squad that featured at the country’s maiden FIFA World Cup outing in 1994 and won the Africa Cup of Nations that same year.

Finidi also played for clubs such as Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland), Sharks (defunct), Ajax, Real Betis, Mallorca and Ipswich Town.

He has been the manager of Enyimba since 2021 and led the Aba giants to their ninth league title last year.
