Former Nigeria midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has tasked Nigerians to throw their weight behind Super Eagles new head coach, Finidi George.
Finidi’s appointment was confirmed on Monday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after he worked in an interim capacity in the last two months.
In a video posted on his (X) handle, Adepoju congratulated the former Ajax winger who won the UEFA Champions League with the Dutch team in 1995.
Adepoju who made 48 senior appearances for the Super Eagles with six goals to his name, also expressed optimism that the appointment of Finidi George will turn around the fortunes of Nigerian football for good.
He said “I want to congratulate Finidi George and I wish him all the best, I also want to solicit support, I want everybody’s support for him so that we can succeed”.
“His success is a success for Nigeria and the Super Eagles, I want to call on everybody to put their support behind him and I believe that success is going to be for the Super Eagles “.
Finidi George’s immediate task will be to guide the Super Eagles to victory in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic in Uyo and Abidjan respectively later in June.
Nigeria are lagging in third place in Group C of the qualifiers behind Rwanda and South Africa.
