Filippo Inzaghi has left his role as manager of Pisa after securing promotion to the Serie A, Afrosport reports.

The 51-year-old had two years left on his Pisa contract but has opted to mutually terminate it to reportedly aid a move to Serie B side Palermo.

According to reports, Palermo, run by City Football Group, have paid Pisa nearly €1 million to bring Inzaghi as they also seek a return to the Serie A since 2017.

“Pisa Sporting Club announces that it has consensually terminated the contractual relationship with Mr Filippo Inzaghi who, as of today, leaves his position as Technical Manager of the First Team,” read a statement on the club website.

“The Company thanks Filippo Inzaghi, together with his Staff, for the professional work carried out and for the fruitful and successful joint path culminating with the promotion to the Serie A.

“We wish them the best for the continuation of their respective careers.”

Pisa finished second in Serie B under Inzaghi last season and gained promotion to the Italian top-flight for the first time in 34 years, joining Sassuolo and Cremonese.

Alberto Gilardino and Marco Giampaolo are among the candidates reported to take over the vacancy left my Inzaghi at Pisa.
