Calvin Bassey was on the scoresheet at Old Trafford again as Fulham defeated Manchester United 4-3 on penalties in the FA Cup fifth round following a 1-1 draw after extra time, Afrosport reports.

Bassey had scored in the Cottagers’ previous visit to the Theatre of Dreams in the Premier League which ended in a 2-1 win for the West London outfit.

Fulham remained in control until the 71st minute when Portugal full-back Diogo Dalot set up his compatriot Bruno Fernandes for the equaliser.

The game remained 1-1 by the end of extra time, although Danish-Nigerian youngster Chidozie Obi was close to putting United ahead in added time of second half and in the additional 30 minutes.

Off it went to penalties with Marco Silva’s side converting all theirs while Victor Lindelof and Dutch-Nigerian forward Joshua Zirkzee missed for Ruben Amorim’s team.

In the earlier FA Cup fifth round tie, former United player Danny Welbeck scored the winner as Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Newcastle United 2-1 after extra time.

Both teams finished with 10 men in regular time after Anthony Gordon received a straight red card in the 83rd minute while Ghana full-back Tariq Lamptey was given a second yellow card in added time.

Switzerland defender Fabian Schar also had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR for the Magpies in the same period.
