Adel Amrouche has been appointed as the new head coach of the Rwanda men’s national team, the country’s football association FERWAFA announced on Sunday.
Amrouche has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with Rwanda, and he will be aided by Eric Nshimiyimana and Calorin Braun, who have been appointed as first and second assistant coaches, respectively.

The Algerian returns to the dugout following his victory in a legal battle with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned his suspension and fine.
The 56-year-old, while in charge of the Tanzanian national team, accused the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) of having too much power within CAF, causing them to manipulate scheduling and officiating.
This led to an eight-match suspension and a $10,000 fine for the Algerian, forcing Tanzania to terminate his contract midway through the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
CAS, however, ruled in favour of Amrouche, annulling CAF’s sanctions as well as instructing the continental football body to compensate the coach.
The former MC Alger boss gets his eighth national team job, having previously managed Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Libya, Botswana, Yemen, Burundi, and Tanzania.
He is tasked with leading Rwanda through the 2026 World Cup qualifiers as well as securing qualification for the next AFCON.
Amrouche will be in the dugout when the Amavubi host the Super Eagles of Nigeria in matchday 5 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at the Amahoro Stadium on 21 March.
