Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner is confident Lewis Hamilton will be a challenger for the Formula 1 world championship when he joins Ferrari for the 2025 season, Afrosport reports.
The seven-time world champion will leave Mercedes at the end of the year to team up with Charles Leclerc at Maranello.
Hamilton has struggled for form this season despite taking two victories in Britain and Belgium with his Mercedes teammate George Russell edging him in qualifying.
Horner however believes that the days of struggle will be behind Hamilton once he joins Ferrari
“He’s obviously coming out of a very comfortable environment, one that he knows very well over the last 10 years, more than 10 years. So that’ll be a change for him,” Horner told Talksport.
“Charles Leclerc is another very fast driver. But Ferrari is a team that looks like they’re picking up momentum. For sure, a driver of Lewis’ quality is always going to be a challenger.
“He could be just jumping at the right time. He’s obviously seen things that he’s chosen to change teams for because he believes in the future of Ferrari, so that’s going to be fascinating to see how that plays out.”
Hamilton is tied on seven world championships with Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher as the most successful driver in F1 history.
An eighth title with the prancing horse will make the former McLaren driver the outright leader for most championship titles.
