F1: McLaren CEO Stella brags about reliability despite Norris’ Dutch GP DNF

McLaren F1 CEO, Andrea Stella, has bragged about the stable reality of the team as a strength despite Lando Norris suffering mechanical failure at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

The championship contender had an oil leak with eight laps left in Zandvoort which ultimately led to his retirement from second place behind race winner Oscar Piastri. The British driver is also now 34 points behind his McLaren teammate in the championship standings.

Norris’ DNF before Sunday were all due to clashes with rival drivers while Piastri has not failed to finish a race since the tail end of the 2023 season.

“We’ve identified an issue on the chassis side, and we will do a full review before we go racing again in Monza,” Stella said.

“This is the first technical problem for the team after a long run of faultless reliability.

“Reliability has been a strong point at McLaren for a long time.

“We have had what looks like a technical reliability problem, which is always disappointing.

“The whole team will process this, try to take the learning, reviewing the problem, fixing it, and making sure that this is not a factor anymore for the future, not only for the remainder of the championship, even if, obviously, this is the main focus for the moment.”

McLaren are 234 points ahead of Ferrari in the constructors championship after the Italian automobile giants saw its drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc record DNFs.
