Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is looking towards Ferrari’s home race at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza after a forgettable outing at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
The 40-year old recorded a DNF after he lost control of his car due to the slippery nature of the track from light rain.
He crashed into the he barriers and suffered significant damage to his car and apologised to the team over the radio for his error.
Hamilton was also hit with a five-second time penalty after failing to slow down under waved double yellow flags before the start of the race, and was hit with two penalty points on his licence after failing to slow down sufficiently while entering the pitlane.
He went on to congratulate rookie Racing Bulls driver Isack Hadjar for scoring his first F1 podium with a third place finish in Zandvoort.
“A result like today is tough to accept, but there are plenty of positives I’m focusing on moving forward,” the former Mercedes driver said in an Instagram post.
“We made improvements with our approach, and the changes implemented are clearly showing progress. Although we’re not yet where we want to be, I’m confident we’re moving in the right direction.
“To my incredible team, I’ll leave no stone unturned to recover the points lost and my determination to fight for us won’t waiver. Now, it’s onwards to Monza, where our passionate Tifosi will be waiting — can’t wait to see everyone there.
“And well done Isack Hadjar on your first podium – I’m so happy for you and your family!”
Hamilton remains sixth on the F1 drivers’ championship standings, 42 points behind Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, while he is 200 points behind run-away leader and Dutch Grand Prix race winner Oscar Piastri.
