F1: McLaren & Aston Martin unveil 2023 car

McLaren and Aston Martin became the latest Formula 1 teams to unveil their cars for the 2023 season.

The car is named MCL 60 which is a reference to the 60th anniversary of the British team which Bruce McLaren founded in 1963.

The eight-time constructors’ champions will field a revised driver line-up consisting of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who replaces Daniel Ricciardo and will make his F1 debut after being reserve driver last season, the same for Alpine.

There have also been been significant changes to McLaren’s leadership, with Andrea Stella taking over as team principal after Andreas Seidl joined Sauber as their new Chief Executive officer.

After losing out on fourth spot in the constructors’ standings to midfield rivals Alpine in 2022, McLaren are aiming to reclaim the position and move closer to the leading three teams – Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes.

Aston Martin meanwhile unveiled the AMR23 at its Silverstone factory hoping it will be propel them forward after back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the constructors championship in 2021 and 2022.

The team have signed two-time world champion Fernando Alonso – who replaced now-retried four-time champion Sebastian Vettel, and will partner Lance Stroll.

Only three car launches remain, with Ferrari unveiling the SF-23 on Tuesday while Mercedes and Alpine will unveil theirs on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
