F1: Hamilton, Verstappen congratulate Norris following Maiden race win in Miami

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have congratulated Lando Norris after the McLaren driver secured his first-ever Formula 1 race win at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday.

The British driver capitalised on a safety car period to take the lead, before fending off Verstappen over the final 25 laps to claim his place at the top of the podium after 110 races and 15 previous finishes in either second or third.

Hamilton who began his F1 career at McLaren, was delighted for Norris.

“I feel really happy for Lando,” the seven-time world champion said.

“He’s going to try and change his flight. He’s got to, he’s just won a race It’s such a special moment to win your first grand prix.

“Obviously I started at McLaren so really happy to see them back at the top. It’s been a long time.”


Meanwhile, Verstappen who failed to win a race for only the second time this season, said of Norris and his win: “I’m very happy for Lando. It’s been a long time coming and it’s not going to be his last one, so he definitely deserves it…”

Verstappen continues to lead the drivers’ championship after six rounds. Norris is 53 points behind the Dutch driver in fifth place while Hamilton is further back in ninth place with just 27 points.
