Williams Racing have announced Jost Capito has stepped down from his role as Team Principal and CEO of the Formula One team.
The 64-year-old German joined the Grove-based outfit in 2020 after finishing bottom of the Constructors’ Championship in 2018 and 2019.
Things improved in 2021 when Williams finished eighth ahead of Ferrari-powered Alfa Romeo and Haas. However, Williams were back to familiar territory in 2022 in last place, finishing with eight points.
Five points finishes were achieved in 2022 including three ninth-place finishes at the Miami Grand Prix, Italian Grand Prix and Japanese Grand Prix.
“Ahead of the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship season, Williams Racing announces that, after two years at the helm of the Grove-based outfit as CEO and Team Principal, Jost Capito is stepping aside,” read a statement on the team website.
“Williams Racing will announce its new Team Principal and Technical Director in due course.”
Capito – who was previously team principal at McLaren – described his time at Williams as a “huge privilege”.
“It has been a huge privilege to lead Williams Racing for the last two seasons and to lay the foundations for the turnaround of this great team,” Capito said. “I look forward to watching the team as it continues on its path to future success.”
Capito becomes the second team principal to step down from his role after the end of the 2022 season, following Mattia Binotto’s departure from Scuderia Ferrari.
