F1: Bonus point for fastest lap to be scrapped from 2025

F1: Plans for post-season rookie race delayed until 2025

Formula 1 governing body, the FIA, have announced that drivers will not get a bonus point for the fastest lap of a race from the 2025 season onwards, Afrosport reports.

The rule has been in existence since 2019 where the driver with the fastest lap on race day Grand gets an additional point if he finishes in the top 10.

The rule however caused controversy at the Singapore Grand Prix after former Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest lap on the final lap of the race to deny McLaren’s Lando Norris the extra point which aided Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen and his ongoing championship fight against Norris.

The change was confirmed following a meeting of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Thursday.
