Euro 2024: Ronaldo upset by Portugal defeat to Georgia

Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was a bit angry after their 2-0 loss to Georgia in their final group game at Euro 2024, according to teammate Bernardo Silva.

Portugal were stunned by goals from Napoli’s Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mikautadze in each half of the encounter to seal Georgia’s victory.

Ronaldo struggled to make an impact in the game before his substitution in the 66th minute but it was also an historic night for the 39-year-old who became the first European player to play a combined 50 matches across major international tournaments.

When asked about Ronaldo’s reaction in the dressing room, Bernardo Silva said: “He doesn’t like to lose. So he still a bit upset. Obviously all of us are. Some guys deal in different ways to bad performances.

“But as I said, it was a game we wanted to win and we didn’t. But we are in good form for best sixteen.”

“We weren’t surprised [by Georgia], because we watched their games against Czech Republic and against Turkey, and in my opinion, they were better in both games.

“So they deserved more than that one point they got (from the first two games). We knew that technically they were a very good team, and with five defenders it wasn’t easy to create chances. Today wasn’t our best performance. It happens. Let’s now prepare well for the last 16.”

Despite the defeat, Portugal finished at the top of Group F with a better goal difference above Turkey as they were both tied on six points from three games.

The Selecao are lined up to face Slovenia in the round of 16 on Monday.
