Elneny announces Arsenal departure

Elneny

Mohamed Elneny has announced that he will depart Arsenal at the end of the season.

The Egyptian midfielder joined the Gunners from Swiss outfit FC Basel in January 2016 and has gone on to make 161 appearances, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists. He has also won the FA Cup and two Community Shields.

The time of Elneny at the Emirates Stadium has however been hindered by multiple injury problems including this season where he has been limited to just six competitive games.

His time in North London will now come to an end when his contract expires in the summer.

“I’m here today to send you a message, to say goodbye and thank you for everything you’ve done for me, your love, the support and the kindness,” Elneny said in a video posted on X.

“I’m really going to miss you so much, you will be in my heart forever. I wanted to say how much I love you and how much you mean to me and I will never forget the way you supported me.

“I’m going to see you on Sunday at Emirates Stadium to say goodbye face to face. See you, Gunners.”

It is yet to be seen if Elneny will make one last appearance for Arsenal when the Gunners take on Everton in the Premier League title-deciding game on Sunday.
