The Chairman, House Committee on Sports in the Federal House of Representatives, Ekene Adams, has died aged 39.
Adams who reportedly passed on in the early hours of Tuesday after a prolonged illness, was the member representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State in lower Nigerian legislative chamber.
Until his death, Adams was involved in generating funds and support for the Nigerian contingents at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
His death was greeted with shock and disbelief by the sporting fraternity in Nigeria owing to his focus on the development of grassroots sports, especially football.
Adams’ remarkable exploits in sports started with Kada City FC, where he served as General Manager, recording unprecedented success with the Kaduna-based side which gained NPFL promotion in 2019.
He later served as General Manager of Remo Stars.
His dedication and desire to promote sports in the grassroots saw Adams sojourn into politics and clinched the House of Representatives seat of Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency during the 2023 general elections.
