Egypt midfielder Sam Morsy named Ipswich Town Player of the Year

Championship leaders Ipswich Town have crowned Egypt star Sam Morsy has their best player for the 2023-24 season.

The 32-year-old midfielder is leading Ipswich Town’s quest for Premier League promotion and has played a majority of the Tractor Boys’ games this season, with 39 appearances in the Championship.

Kieran McKenna’s men are currently top of the Championship table with 89 points in 43 games and they are battling Leicester City and Leeds United for their return to the Premier League since 2002.

Morsy’s contribution of three goals and five assists, in addition to his leadership, have been crucial for Ipswich.

The Egypt international has spent his entire club career in England but he is yet to have a taste of Premier League football and he is bidding to be the 13th Egyptian to play in the English top-flight.

He did not make the stage at Sunday’s EFL awards but his teammate Wes Burn’s clinched the EFL Goal of the Season award with his beautiful finish against Conventry City while coach McKenna was named the EFL Championship Manager of the Season.

Morsy and his Ipswich Town teammates will hope to maintain their lead at the Championship summit in the final three matchdays when they face Hull City, Convetry City and Huddersfield Town.
