EFL Cup: Eze scores first Arsenal goal in victory over Port Vale

Eberechi Eze scored his first goal for Arsenal in a 2-0 win at Port Vale in the EFL Cup third round on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.

The 27-year-old English forward of Nigerian heritage joined the Gunners from Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window and had already provided Premier League assists in the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest and the 1-1 draw with Manchester City last time out.

He finally got his first goal for the North London club against Port Vale by connecting with left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly in the eighth minute.

Arsenal remained in control and had their lead doubled by Belgian forward Leandro Trossard in the 86th minute off an assist from France centre-back William Saliba.


In other EFL Cup results on Wednesday, Arsenal’s fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur defeated Doncaster Rovers 3-0, thanks to goals from Joao Palhinha, Jay McGrath and Brennan Johnson.

At St. James’ Park, braces from Danish forward William Osula, of Nigerian heritage, as well as Brazilian midfielder Joelinton, handed Newcastle United a 4-1 win over Bradford City while strikes from Phil Foden and Savinho earned Manchester City a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium.

Meanwhile, the draw for the fourth round took place after Wednesday’s games. The next round will see Arsenal host Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford travel to Grimsby Town while Manchester City travel to Swansea City.

Newcastle host Tottenham Hotspur in another all-Premier League match up likewise Liverpool against Crystal Palace Wolverhampton Wanderers against Chelsea.

The final fixtures sees Fulham travel to Wycombe Wanderers.
