Done Deal: Mali’s Sekou Koita joins CSKA Moscow on free transfer

Paris 2024: Antetokounmpo chosen as Greece’s flag bearer for Summer Olympics

Sekou Koita has joined CSKA Moscow on a free transfer after his contract with Red Bull Salzburg expired.

The Mali international was on the books of the Austrian giants for five years, making a total of 106 competitive appearances, scoring 43 goals and providing 21 assists.

Koita’s time in Salzburg was also laden with trophies, winning the Austrian Bundesliga four times and the Austrian Cup on two occasions.

He is now hoping to continue that winning tradition with one of Russia’s most successful clubs, with a deal in place until at least 2027.

He will also wear the number 20 shirt like he did in Salzburg.

“CSKA is a big club, and I’m happy to sign with them. I hope we can achieve many victories and win trophies for the fans,” he said.

“I am looking forward to taking the field, meet my comrades and begin our journey to cherished medals and cups.”

CSKA finished sixth in the Russian Premier League last season, nine points behind eventual champions Zenit Saint Petersburg.
