Done Deal: Burnley sign Tunisian midfielder Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United

Burnley have completed the signing of Tunisia international Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United, Afrosport reports.

The 21-year-old joins the Championship club on a four-year contract in a deal worth around £9.4 million including add-ons, with additional sell-on and buy-back clauses.

“I’m very excited,” Mejbri told Burnley media. “Very happy to be here and I can’t wait to see the fans. I have played against Burnley before at Turf Moor and the atmosphere was amazing.

“After speaking to the coach [Scott Parker] the project sounded good to me and hopefully we can make success.”

Mejbri, who joined United’s youth setup from Monaco in 2019, had two loan spells with Birmingham City and Sevilla. He played 13 times for the Red Devils’ senior team, making his debut as United’s 239th academy graduate in 2021.

The midfielder scored his only goal for United in a 3-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion in a Premier League match at Old Trafford during the 2023-24 season.

Mejbri penned a heartfelt message to the Manchester club and its fans, thanking them for his development over the past five years.

“It has been an honour to represent this incredible club for the last five years. I leave with so many special memories. Making my debut, scoring at Old Trafford, and representing United in the Champions League,” his post read.

“I’ll be forever grateful to the many staff and players who have helped me to develop as a player and grow from the boy to the man I am today.”

His departure is the latest in a string of outgoings for United as they continue to adjust to life under the management of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his front office, who control the football activities of the club.
