Ruben Dias has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at Manchester City until 2029, Afrosport reports.
His previous deal was set to expire in 2027, but the City have tied him down for at least the next four years, with the new contract including the option of a further year.
“I am incredibly happy today,” said Dias. ” “I’m so proud to represent this great Club. City are where I want to be – at the top of the sport, competing for trophies. The club’s ambition aligns perfectly with mine and as a footballer there is nothing better than that.
“I love Manchester – it is my home now – and I love the Manchester City fans. Their support from day one has been absolutely unbelievable, and I appreciate them a lot.”
The 28-year-old moved to the Etihad Stadium from Portuguese side Benfica in 2020 for £65 million. He impressed in his debut season for City and was named the Premier League Player of the year for 2020-21.
Dias has won 10 trophies during his five-year career at City, including four league titles, the Champions League, FA Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
“I’m very happy with all of it,” he continued. “I think mostly with the opportunity to play four or five more years at this level of this kind of ambition.
“Obviously, I’ve been here five years now and the Premier League was always the target. The Premier League was always the one I was watching when I was a kid. The Premier League was where I set the standard of being top or not [and I’m proud] to have the opportunity of extending and fighting for nine or 10 years in this Club at this level.
“I’ve obviously won many things since I came and hopefully, I’ll win more, but just the achievement of playing at this level for nine or 10 years, just by itself, is one I will be very proud of.”

Director of Football Hugo Viana added: “As a club, we’re really excited that Ruben has signed a new contract and committed his long-term future to the Club.
“His hard work, professionalism and sheer dedication are clear to all of us every single day, He is a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch. He is one of our captains, the players listen to him and Pep and the coaching staff love working with him. He is the ultimate professional.
“His performances over the past five years have been outstanding and he is a big reason why we have been so successful. Every time Ruben pulls on a City shirt, he gives his all for the badge and we are so happy to know he will be here for the next four years.”
Dias played the entire 90 minutes in City’s 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in their season opener last weekend. He is expected to suit up for their first home game of the new campaign against Tottenham on Saturday.
