Douglas Luiz completes loan move from Juventus to Nottingham Forest

Douglas Luiz has returned to the Premier League by completing a loan move from Juventus to Nottingham Forest with a conditional obligation for a permanent transfer next summer, Afrosport reports.

The 27-year-old Brazilian joined the Bianconeri from Aston Villa last summer on a five-year contract for almost €50 million, but it was a less-than-ideal time in Turin as he made only 27 appearances in all competitions and fell out of favour with the club.

Luiz had a more prominent stint with Villa, where he made 204 competitive appearances between 2019 and 2024, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists, and will be looking to bring his career back on track in the East Midlands.

“I am really happy to be here, it’s a big club and I decided to come here because I can see the ambition the club has. I am so excited to start with the team and give my best for the shirt and the fans,” he told the club website.

Meanwhile, Forest chief football officer Ross Wilson said of Luiz’s signing: “It’s been a very busy but successful period for us in the window in the past few weeks, and Douglas is another addition to the squad that will bring significant quality to the group.

“He’s played at the highest level for a long time, understands the demands of the Premier League, and has experience playing in elite European competition. We’re delighted that Douglas now joins the group, and we are sure that he will be warmly welcomed by everyone at Nottingham Forest.”

Luiz could be in line to make his debut with Forest in Sunday’s Premier League visit to Crystal Palace. They kick off their season with a 3-1 win over Brentford at the City Ground last Sunday.
